Manipur State Government Refutes Reports of EU Financial Aid for Storm Relief
Northeast Desk, 30th May: The Manipur State Government has firmly refuted circulating reports in the media and on social network platforms claiming that the European Union (EU) has provided 250,000 euros (Rs. 2.25 crore) to assist victims of a severe storm in the state.
A notification issued by the state Chief Secretary, Dr. Vineet Joshi, clarified that all financial needs related to the recent storm are being adequately met through the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF).
The notification emphasized that all relief efforts are being coordinated and implemented by the concerned Deputy Commissioners, security forces, and public volunteers. It was explicitly stated that no non-governmental organizations (NGOs) or civil society organizations have been entrusted with the relief operations.
Additionally, the state government has already sanctioned Rs. 30 crore to the Deputy Commissioners of the affected districts to ensure swift and effective relief measures.
Earlier, on May 29, reports suggested that the European Union had announced financial aid of 250,000 euros (over Rs. 2.25 crore) to support people impacted by a hailstorm and heavy rain in Manipur in early May. The EU’s statement allegedly confirmed this aid, stating, “The European Union has made available 250,000 euros in response to the recent hailstorm and heavy rain that hit India’s northeastern state of Manipur in early May.”
The state government’s clarification aims to dispel any misinformation and reassure the public that all necessary funds and resources for storm relief are being managed internally through designated disaster response funds.
