Assam: Road Damage and Disruptions Due to Heavy Rainfall in Haflong
Guwahati, 30th May: The road on Assam’s Haflong-Jatinga route near Rani Gaidinliu Statue has suffered significant damage, leading to the restriction of heavy vehicle movement.
Moreover, the Haflong-Silchar link road has been severed due to the heavy rainfall on May 28. A substantial portion of the road was washed away by the rising water level of the river in Assam’s Dima Hasao district.
As a result, the Deputy Commissioner of Dima Hasao district has announced the closure of the Haflong-Silchar connecting road until June 1 for safety reasons.
Tragically, one person has lost their life, and 17 others have sustained injuries due to the strong winds and heavy rains that have battered various parts of the state.
In light of the adverse weather conditions and the warning issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) regarding Cyclone Remal, the Mizoram state government has taken precautionary measures. All government offices were ordered to remain closed on May 28.
According to recent weather forecasts, intense rainfall is expected in Kerala, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim. These regions are at risk of flooding and landslides, prompting authorities to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
