Assam: Prohibitory and Advisory Orders Issued in Sivasagar District Due to Cyclone Remal
Guwahati, 30th May: Under the influence of Cyclone Remal, several areas across Assam have experienced severe wind storms and heavy rainfall, resulting in loss of lives and properties. Sivasagar district is also bracing for heavy rain and strong winds, with a possibility of continuous rain for the next two days, along with the potential for a storm.
To mitigate the risk of potential loss of life and property in the district, District Commissioner Aditya Vikram Yadav has issued immediate prohibitory and advisory orders under Section 30(2)(VIII) of the District Disaster Management Authority, 2005.
- Suspension of Water Transportation: All Inland Water Transport (IWT) services and private boat/ferry services within the jurisdiction of Sivasagar district are suspended until May 30, 2024, except for essential services, relief, and rescue operations.
- Ban on Fishing Activities: Fishing activities in the Brahmaputra River and its tributaries are prohibited until May 30, 2024.
- Prohibition of Swimming: Swimming activities in rivers and other water bodies in the district are banned until May 30, 2024.
- Advisory for Farmers: Farmers are advised to refrain from field-level agricultural activities and cattle grazing until May 30, 2024.
- Closure of Anganwadi Centres: All Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) in Sivasagar district will remain closed until May 30, 2024.
- Restriction on Outdoor Activities in Educational Institutions: All educational institutions, both government and private, in the district are prohibited from conducting outdoor activities until May 30, 2024. School authorities are advised to monitor the weather forecast and grant leave to students after the conclusion of day-long classes, taking appropriate precautions.
These measures aim to ensure the safety and well-being of residents in Sivasagar district amidst the adverse weather conditions caused by Cyclone Remal. Citizens are urged to adhere to these orders and take necessary precautions to stay safe.
