Moderate Quake Rattles Guwahati: Originating in Myanmar, Tremors Felt Across India and Bangladesh
Guwahati, 2nd June: Guwahati experienced a seismic event on June 2, as a moderate earthquake measuring magnitude 5.5 sent tremors through the city. The earthquake, with its epicenter in Myanmar, had ripple effects across parts of India and Bangladesh, as confirmed by the National Center for Seismology.
At precisely 2:14 pm, the ground began to shake, causing concern among residents. The epicenter of the earthquake was pinpointed near Meghalaya’s Jowai, with coordinates Lat: 22.82 N, Long: 94.48 E, and a depth of 110 km.
Despite the intensity of the quake, there were no immediate reports of casualties or significant damages. However, the event served as a reminder of the region’s vulnerability to seismic activity and the importance of preparedness measures.
