Three-Tier Security System Implemented for Lok Sabha Election Result Counting in Tripura
Northeast Desk, 2nd June: As Tripura braces for the counting of Lok Sabha election results on June 4, stringent security measures are being put in place across the state. Chief Electoral Officer Puneet Agarwal announced the enforcement of a three-tier security system to ensure the smooth conduct of the counting process, which will occur at 20 locations.
The counting of votes for Tripura’s two Lok Sabha constituencies and the 7-Ramnagar Assembly Constituency by-election is scheduled to commence at 8 am on June 4, 2024. Agarwal revealed that the counting will be distributed among a total of 20 locations, including district and sub-divisional headquarters.
According to Agarwal, the counting for the 1-Tripura West Parliamentary Constituency will be held at 7 centers, while the 2-East Tripura (ST) Parliamentary Constituency will have 15 centers dedicated to counting. The Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and other voting records are securely stored in strong rooms at these locations.
To facilitate media coverage, media centers have been set up at all counting centers, allowing journalists to access the centers with their mobile phones. Agarwal assured that CCTV systems will monitor the counting halls, strong rooms, and corridors, ensuring transparency and security throughout the process.
Strict protocols are in place to prevent unauthorized entry, with a ban on cameras, video cameras, matchboxes, weapons, and other inflammable items inside the counting centers. Additionally, the Election Commission has appointed 31 counting observers to supervise the counting process for the two parliamentary constituencies in the state.
Candidates have been urged to appoint counting agents based on the number of counting tables and submit their appointment letters to the office of the Returning Officer or Assistant Returning Officer promptly. With these measures in place, Tripura aims to uphold the integrity and fairness of the election result counting process.
