Sikkim CM Holds First Meeting with Legislators, Acknowledges Trust and Victory

Northeast Desk, 3rd June: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang convened the inaugural gathering of the newly elected legislators at his official residence, Mintokgang, marking the beginning of the 11th Sikkim Legislative Assembly.

Expressing gratitude to the legislators for their unanimous trust in electing him as the leader of the Legislature Party, Tamang extended heartfelt thanks to the people of Sikkim for their mandate, enabling his party to serve the state once again. The Chief Minister hailed the significant victory in the 11th Sikkim Vidhan Sabha General Elections, 2024, as a testament to the collective aspirations of the electorate.

In a display of unity within the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) party, Chief Minister Tamang paid a visit to senior leader Kunga Nima Lepcha at his official residence on June 2. This gesture of solidarity followed Lepcha’s defeat in the state assembly elections, where he stood as the lone SKM candidate from the Syari constituency.

During the interaction, Chief Minister Tamang extended unwavering support to Lepcha, acknowledging his unwavering dedication and contribution to the party. Despite Lepcha’s defeat in a closely contested election, Tamang emphasized the importance of unity and resilience within the party ranks.

The election results revealed Sikkim Democratic Front’s (SDF) Tenzing Norbu Lamtha as the victor in the Syari constituency with 6633 votes, while the SKM’s only losing candidate, Kunga Nima Lepcha, faced disappointment in his electoral pursuit.

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Tamang expressed gratitude to SKM workers and the people of Sikkim for the party’s resounding victory in the state assembly elections. With the SKM securing 31 out of 32 seats, the Chief Minister attributed the triumph to the relentless efforts of the party cadre and the unwavering trust of the electorate in his government’s vision and leadership.
