Assam Rifles and NDRF Conduct Relief Operations in Flood-Hit Manipur
Guwahati, 3rd June: Assam Rifles and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have launched round-the-clock operations to provide relief materials and evacuate stranded residents in flood-ravaged Manipur, where several localities remain inundated following torrential rains triggered by Cyclone Remal. Despite receding water levels in the Imphal and Nambul rivers, the situation remains dire in many areas across the state.
In Imphal’s Nagaram area, one of the hardest-hit regions, teams from the 37 and 33 Assam Rifles and NDRF have been deployed to assist with relief efforts. Utilizing motorboats, Assam Rifles personnel navigated through flooded localities, delivering essential supplies such as food and medicine to those affected by the calamity.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, taking to Twitter, announced the active involvement of Manipur Fire Service teams in clearing floodwater and obstructions in the Naga River at North AOC Imphal to facilitate the restoration of water flow in the affected areas.
Cyclone Remal’s landfall in Manipur last week triggered heavy rainfall, leading to river overflow and widespread flooding. The calamity has claimed the lives of three individuals, while over 100,000 people have been adversely affected by the floods. The collaborative efforts of Assam Rifles, NDRF, and local authorities underscore the concerted response to alleviate the suffering and restore normalcy in flood-affected regions of Manipur.
