Arunachal: Over 450 Dogs Vaccinated in Itanagar as Anti-Rabies Drive Gains Momentum
Northeast Desk, 3rd June: In a concerted effort to combat rabies and ensure the well-being of both stray and pet dogs, more than 450 dogs were vaccinated across various locations in the capital complex, with 155 dogs receiving vaccinations on the Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) campus alone.
Dr. Tako Taram, the district animal husbandry and veterinary officer (DAH&VO) of Papum Pare, provided insights into the ongoing vaccination campaign, highlighting its extensive reach across areas such as Ganga Market, Vivek Vihar, Chandannagar, Itanagar Police Colony, Naharlagun, and the NERIST campus in the previous week. This initiative, spearheaded by the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department in collaboration with stakeholders including the Itanagar Municipal Corporation, Doimukh Veterinary Clinic, Doimukh Hospital, and the Lekhi-based NGO Dog & Cat Rescue, underscores the collective commitment to promoting public health and animal welfare.
Notable figures such as RGU’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Akin Tana Tara, Yupia Senior Veterinary Officer Dr. T.R. Nabam, Nodal Officer for Pet Registration and Control Dr. Thomas Doka, and Tarun Jomoh from Dog & Cat Rescue were present during the vaccination drive, demonstrating the unified front in addressing rabies prevention and control measures.
Dr. Taram emphasized the importance of pet owners ensuring the vaccination of their dogs and providing them with a nutritious diet for optimal health. Additionally, he urged individuals bitten by dogs to seek immediate treatment at designated rabies clinics such as TRIHMS in Naharlagun, BPGH in Pasighat, and the General Hospital in Ziro, while also advising them to cleanse their wounds thoroughly with running water.
As the anti-rabies drive gains momentum, the collaborative efforts of stakeholders and proactive participation from the community play a pivotal role in safeguarding both human and animal health in Itanagar and beyond.
