Tripura Gears Up for Vote Counting in Lok Sabha and Assembly By-Elections

Northeast Desk, 3rd June: Preparations for the counting of votes in Tripura’s two Lok Sabha constituencies—Tripura West and Tripura East—and the Ramnagar Assembly segment byelection have been finalized, according to Chief Electoral Officer Puneet Agarwal. The counting is scheduled to begin on June 4 at 8 a.m. across 20 locations in the state.

The polling for the Tripura West Lok Sabha seat and the Ramnagar Assembly segment byelection was held on April 16, while the Tripura East Lok Sabha constituency voted on April 26. Voter turnout was robust, with the Tripura West constituency recording an average of 81.48% and the Tripura East constituency seeing 80.36% voter participation.

“All preparations for counting for two Parliamentary constituencies and the Ramnagar Assembly segment byelection have been completed. The counting will commence in 20 locations across the state on June 4 at 8 a.m.,” CEO Agarwal told PTI.

Political parties have submitted the names of their counting agents, who will monitor the process within their respective counting halls. To ensure transparency, CCTV cameras have been installed in all counting halls, Agarwal noted.

A three-tier security layer will surround the counting halls, with prohibitory orders already in place to maintain order. The Election Commission has appointed 31 counting supervisors to oversee the process.

In the Tripura West Lok Sabha constituency, BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb is pitted against state Congress president Asish Kumar Saha. Meanwhile, in the Tripura East Lok Sabha seat, BJP’s Kriti Devi Debbarma is contesting against CPI(M) nominee Rajendra Reang.

The political landscape in Tripura is set to be significantly impacted by the outcomes of these elections, as the counting process unfolds on June 4.
