Assam: Fuel Price Surge Stuns Guwahati Residents
Guwahati, 5th June: Guwahati residents were taken aback by a significant increase in petrol and diesel prices just twenty-four hours after the Lok Sabha election results were announced.
The sudden surge, amidst ongoing political discussions, has sparked widespread concern. Petrol prices rose by Rs 1.02 per litre, while diesel prices increased by Re 1.01, adding to the financial burden of consumers.
The timing of this hike, closely following the elections, has raised eyebrows and fueled discontent among the public. Many residents expressed dismay over the unexpected price surge, catching them off guard.
As of today, petrol in Guwahati costs Rs 97.19 per litre, up slightly from yesterday’s Rs 96.17. Over the past ten days, petrol prices ranged from Rs 96.13 to Rs 97.19.
Similarly, diesel prices in Guwahati rose to Rs 89.42 per litre from yesterday’s Rs 88.41. Diesel prices fluctuated between Rs 88.38 and Rs 89.42 over the past ten days.
The sudden increase in fuel costs has triggered strong reactions, especially amidst economic challenges exacerbated by the pandemic. The unexpected surge has strained finances further, prompting calls for clarity on the reasons behind the hike.
