Guwahati Police Intercept Truck Smuggling Cattle to Meghalaya, Rescue 26 Live Animals
Guwahati, 6th June: The East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) team from Jorabat Outpost of Basistha Police Station intercepted a truck illegally transporting cattle on the Jorabat Link Road on the morning of June 6.
The vigilant officers swiftly acted upon spotting the suspicious truck, registered as AS02CC2338, which was attempting to smuggle the cattle into the neighboring state of Meghalaya. A thorough inspection of the vehicle led to the rescue of 26 live cattle and the recovery of two carcasses.
The driver, Nurjoul Islam, a 32-year-old resident of Juria, was apprehended on the spot. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused under relevant sections of the law. Further investigations are ongoing to uncover the potential involvement of a larger smuggling network operating in the region.
