Joint Operation by Tripura Police and BSF Yields Seizure of Contraband Items
Northeast Desk, 7th June: Tripura Police, in collaboration with the Border Security Force (BSF), conducted a successful operation on June 7, resulting in the seizure of a pistol and contraband items worth Rs 20 lakh from the Matinagar bordering area in West Tripura District.
Dr. Kiran Kumar, the Superintendent of Police for West Tripura District, revealed that they received a tip-off about an individual storing a significant quantity of Yaba tablets and arms at his residence.
“Abu Salam Bhuyan (59) was identified as the individual in possession of these illicit items. As his house was situated near the international border at Matinagar, we sought assistance from the BSF. Together, the BSF and Tripura Police cordoned off his house and conducted a search, resulting in the seizure of 40,000 Yaba tablets and one 7.65 caliber pistol with five live rounds. The estimated market value of the seized items is approximately Rs 20 lakh,” stated the SP.
Early this morning, both the Police and BSF apprehended Abu Salam Bhuyan. He will be presented before the court, with authorities seeking police remand for further interrogation to uncover more details about the operation and potential connections to larger criminal networks.
