Sikkim Extends Support to NDA Government, CM Tamang to Attend PM Modi’s Swearing-in Ceremony
Northeast Desk, 7th June: Sikkim has made history by becoming the first state to officially extend its support to the newly elected National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre. This decision was reached during a pivotal meeting of the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) legislators, chaired by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, at Mintokgang on June 7.
The meeting unanimously passed a resolution endorsing the NDA led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with the state’s lone MP, Indrahang Subba, pledging support for the alliance in the government formation process. Chief Minister Tamang took to social media to announce the decision, stating, “During today’s meeting, we unanimously decided to support Shri Narendra Modi Ji, the Honorable Leader of the BJP Parliamentary Party, as the Prime Minister of India.”
Tamang congratulated Modi and the NDA on their resounding victory in the 18th Lok Sabha elections, expressing the SKM party’s unwavering support for the alliance’s vision of national development and prosperity.
In a gesture of appreciation, Tamang welcomed former Members of Parliament Dil Kumari Bhandari and Nandu Thapa at his official residence, recognizing their invaluable contributions to the state. He commended Bhandari’s instrumental role in the Nepali language recognition movement, which culminated in its official recognition in 1992.
The Chief Minister is slated to travel to Delhi on June 8 to attend Prime Minister Modi’s swearing-in ceremony, expected to take place on June 10, as per sources from the Chief Minister’s Office.
Additionally, Tamang announced the swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected Sikkim government, scheduled for June 10 at Paljor Stadium in Gangtok. He expressed gratitude to the people of Sikkim for entrusting the SKM party with a significant mandate in both the recent 11th Sikkim Vidhan Sabha and 18th Lok Sabha elections.
