Guwahati, 10th June: Amid renewed violence in Manipur’s Jiribam area, approximately 600 residents seek refuge in neighboring Assam’s Cachar district. The influx follows a series of violent incidents, including arson attacks, sparked by the tragic murder of an individual in Jiribam.
Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta confirms heightened security measures along the border. Security personnel and special commando forces are patrolling the area, ensuring peace despite the unrest in Jiribam.
Displaced residents find shelter with relatives in Assam, where SP Mahatta assures a peaceful situation under close surveillance. A local Member of Legislative Assembly convenes a peace committee meeting to address the crisis and ensure stability.
Mahatta warns of strong lawful action against any attempt to disrupt peace in Cachar amidst the ongoing turmoil in Jiribam.
