Assam CM Approves Critical Measures for Flood Forecasting and Infrastructure Planning

Guwahati, 12th June: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma chaired a cabinet meeting on June 12 to address key decisions, including significant measures to improve flood forecasting and water resource management.

The cabinet approved the “Guidelines for Installation and Maintenance of Real-Time Data Acquisition Systems (RTDAS), 2024.” These guidelines aim to streamline district-level approvals for installing RTDAS in government establishment campuses, enhancing water resource planning and flood forecasting in crucial river basins throughout the state.

The RTDAS units will collect vital hydrological data, aiding in infrastructure planning and supporting advanced agricultural and irrigation practices. To ensure comprehensive data collection, the cabinet also approved a 10-year roadmap for installing approximately 800 RTDAS units statewide.

This initiative marks a significant step towards mitigating flood risks and improving resource management in Assam.
