Arunachal Pradesh Karate Trio Set to Shine at BRICS Games in Russia
Northeast Desk, 13th June: Three talented karate athletes hailing from Arunachal Pradesh, namely Johny Mangkhiya, Abab Sangdo, and Mesom Singhi, have been selected to proudly represent India at the forthcoming BRICS Games in Kazan, Russia. Scheduled from June 12 to 23, Mangkhiya will compete in Kumite, while Sangdo and Singhi will showcase their skills in the Kata event.
Despite being chosen for the 19th Asian Games in China last year, the trio faced setbacks due to visa issues that prevented their participation. However, they have now secured spots on the eight-member Indian karate team, comprising four male and four female athletes.
Organized annually under the rotating chair of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) organization, this year’s BRICS Games will mark a significant milestone by including participants from non-BRICS countries for the first time. The event will feature competitions across 27 diverse sports, underscoring its growing international stature.
These karatekas from Arunachal Pradesh, equipped with their skill and determination, aim to make India proud on this global stage, showcasing their prowess in martial arts amidst stiff international competition.
