Child Abuse Shock in Assam’s Silchar: Mother Forces Toddler to Drink and Smoke, Arrest Imminent

Guwahati, 13th June: In a disturbing incident reported from Silchar, a mother subjected her 1 year-8-month-old toddler to forced drinking and smoking inside a rented house on Chengcoorie road. The incident came to light when the District Child Helpline received alarming photographs from an informant on June 12.

Responding swiftly, the District Child Protection Unit, Cachar, in collaboration with Silchar Sadar Police, conducted a raid at the residence. They apprehended the mother, who admitted to the acts and attempted to justify them by claiming they were merely “partying.”

Expressing concern, Debashish Dey, Supervisor of the District Child Helpline Unit, stated, “This is a shocking incident. Both the mother and child have been placed in a shelter home pending legal procedures. The mother faces imminent arrest once an FIR is filed.”

The incident has sparked outrage and underscores the critical need for safeguarding children against such abuse, emphasizing the swift action taken by authorities to protect the child’s welfare and pursue justice.
