Indian Parliament Prepares for Busy Monsoon Session with Key Budget Presentation

National Desk, 14th June: Indian Parliament is gearing up for a hectic Monsoon Session, scheduled from July 22 to August 9, featuring the presentation of the full Union Budget for 2024-25 by the government.

Pre-budget consultations between the Finance Ministry and various ministries and stakeholders began on June 17, aiming to finalize the financial statements and proposals.

Besides the Budget, the session will include several significant activities: the oath-taking of newly elected MPs, the election of the Lok Sabha Speaker, the customary President’s address to the joint sitting, and subsequent discussions.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced that the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha will take place from June 24 to July 3, preceding the Monsoon Session.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had previously presented an Interim Budget in February, which outlined the government’s economic roadmap. This roadmap focuses on a sustained infrastructure push to generate jobs and welfare measures for farmers, youth, women, and poor households.

Reports indicate a special 8-day Parliament session has also been scheduled from June 24, with the election of the Lok Sabha Speaker likely on June 26 and the oath-taking by new MPs on June 24-25.
