Assam: Forest Officer Apprehended in Anti-Corruption Sting in Jorhat

Guwahati, 15th June: In a decisive move against alleged corruption within the forest department, Regional Forest Officer Iqbal Ahmed was apprehended in Jorhat, Assam, during an anti-corruption operation. Ahmed was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000.

The arrest followed numerous complaints lodged against Ahmed, with evidence of his involvement in corrupt activities prompting the undercover operation. The Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption team carried out the successful sting, underscoring ongoing efforts to eliminate corruption and promote transparency in government operations.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commended the operation, tweeting, “Today, on 15.06.2024, the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption team conducted a successful operation in Jorhat. Forest Range Officer Iqbal Ahmed was caught red-handed in his office accepting a Rs. 30,000/- bribe for issuing a license. Justice in action.”
