Security Forces Recover Arms and Ammunition in Manipur Operations
Northeast Desk, 18th June: Security forces have intensified their efforts to secure the fringe and vulnerable areas of Manipur’s hill and valley districts, leading to significant arms and ammunition recoveries. During search operations on June 16, 2024, in the foothills of Gangpijang Hill Ranges, Kangpokpi District, the forces recovered a substantial cache of weapons. The haul included one 7.62mm AK 56 assault rifle, one .22 rifle, one 12-inch single bore barrel gun, two improvised projectile launchers, one Chinese hand grenade, one country-made hand grenade, one 51mm mortar, and fifteen rounds of live ammunition.
The operation followed a joint night street meeting held by police officers from Assam and Manipur on June 15 at Jiribam, near the Assam-Manipur border. This meeting addressed the prevailing security situation and coordinated efforts to ensure peace and stability in the region.
In response to the ongoing challenges, regular patrolling and area domination have been intensified across the riverine stretches of the Barak and Jiri rivers. This increased presence aims to prevent illegal activities and maintain order.
Significant efforts have been made to ensure the safe movement of essential supplies. On June 16, security forces facilitated the movement of 117 vehicles along NH-37 and 378 vehicles along NH-2, ensuring they carried essential items without disruption. Strict security measures, including security convoys, have been implemented in sensitive areas to safeguard these routes.
To bolster security, a total of 122 Nakas and checkpoints have been established across different districts of Manipur. These efforts have resulted in the detention of 104 individuals for various violations, demonstrating the authorities’ commitment to maintaining law and order.
These measures are part of a comprehensive strategy to address the security concerns in Manipur, ensuring the safety of its residents and the uninterrupted flow of essential goods.
