Northeast Desk, 18th June: In response to a devastating flood in Sikkim on June 12, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has undertaken a remarkable rescue operation to evacuate stranded tourists beyond Chungthang. Working closely with the Mangan district administration, the BRO displayed exceptional dedication and efficiency despite challenging weather conditions.
Commencing on June 17, the rescue operation faced significant hurdles due to inclement weather. Despite this, the BRO’s teams exhibited resilience and determination, successfully evacuating 50 tourists by evening.
Building on their initial success, the BRO, alongside the district administration of Mangan, intensified rescue efforts on June 18. Their coordinated actions led to the safe evacuation of over 500 tourists from flood-affected areas. The BRO’s relentless efforts included clearing numerous landslides, crucial for facilitating the movement to safer locations.
Moreover, the BRO played a critical role in restoring connectivity by clearing obstructed pathways, removing debris, and stabilizing affected areas. Their proactive measures have laid the groundwork for ongoing recovery efforts in the region, ensuring the safety and well-being of all affected individuals.
