Sikkim: Mangan District Closes All Government Schools Due to Safety Concerns Amid Heavy Rainfall
Northeast Desk, 18th June: The Mangan district administration has ordered the immediate closure of all government schools due to safety concerns arising from property damage and road blockages.
District Magistrate Hem Kumar Chettri issued the directive on Tuesday, stating that government schools in the Manul, Singhik, Mangan, and Mangshilla clusters of Mangan block, as well as in the Lingdong, Hee Gyathang, Passingdong, Lingzya, Tingvong, and Gor clusters of Dzongu block, will remain closed until further notice.
The decision was prompted by continuous and heavy rainfall on the night of June 12-13, which caused significant damage and road blockages, making it unsafe for students to attend school.
School heads and staff are required to stay in their stations, and the order is effective immediately and will remain in place until further updates.
Since June 12, incessant rains have caused multiple landslides in Mangan, disrupting connectivity to most parts of the district.
