Neglected Kaldia River Embankment in Assam’s Bajali Causes Dangerous Road Washout Amid Floods
Guwahati, 19th June: The embankment along the Kaldia River in southern Bajali, Assam, is suffering from neglect and lack of maintenance, leading to a significant washout of the Tihu Bongaon Garhkaptani road amidst ongoing floods in the region.
Despite multiple repair efforts by the local panchayat, the embankment has repeatedly failed due to substandard work. The recent surge in water levels has exacerbated the situation, severely eroding the embankment and washing away half of the main road.
This damaged road now poses a serious hazard to commuters, including numerous students from various local schools, who are compelled to navigate the perilous conditions on foot.
Local residents have raised alarms about the rising waters and the damaged infrastructure, emphasizing the heightened risk to their safety.
Authorities are being urged to address the situation promptly and to implement durable repair measures to ensure safe passage for all residents and restore the integrity of the affected road.
