Guwahati, 20th June: In response to the India Meteorological Department’s forecast of heavy rainfall, the Bongaigaon district administration has implemented precautionary measures to safeguard the public. With significant rises expected in the water levels of the Ai, Manas, and Brahmaputra rivers, the district commissioner of Bongaigaon and chairman of the Disaster Management Authority, Nabadeep Pathak, has enforced a ban on the movement of both common and mechanized boats in these major rivers.
This decision, made under Section 34(b) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, aims to prevent any harm to passengers. The ban will be in effect from June 19 to July 3, during which time all normal and mechanized boats are prohibited from operating within the district’s jurisdiction.
The authorities urge the public to adhere to this ban to ensure safety during the anticipated heavy rainfall period.
