Guwahati: Massive Landslide in Patharquary Behind Sagarika Wedding Hall
Guwahati, 20th June: A massive landslide behind the Sagarika Wedding Hall in Patharquary has caused significant damage, including the collapse of a concrete wall and the burial of a vehicle beneath the debris. The incident has raised serious concerns about the potential for further collapses in the area.
Witnesses reported that a large quantity of red soil from the hill slipped, leading to the initial collapse. There are fears that a larger portion of the hill might collapse imminently, exacerbating the already critical situation.
Initial investigations suggest that Padmeshwar Basumatary, the owner of the premises, had been illegally excavating red soil from the hill. Basumatary is also accused of constructing a building on the site without proper authorization, actions that are believed to have triggered the landslide.
Despite the severity of the incident, no officials from the forest department or local administration have yet arrived at the scene, leaving the area without immediate expert assessment or intervention. The lack of official presence has left residents and witnesses anxious about the possibility of further collapses and the overall safety of the area.
