Assam: GRP Seizes Large Quantity of Suspected Burmese Supari in New Bongaigaon Raid
Guwahati, 22nd June: In a major crackdown on illegal goods transport, the Government Railway Police (GRP) conducted a significant raid at New Bongaigaon Junction in Assam’s Bongaigaon district. The operation, which took place aboard the Namni Mua Kamrup Express, resulted in the seizure of approximately 140 bags of suspected Burmese supari (betel nut).
The GRP’s swift action is part of a broader initiative to curb the illegal transport of goods, highlighting their commitment to addressing such activities. The seized supari is believed to have been smuggled from Burma, raising concerns about the illicit trade routes and networks operating in the region.
Authorities are currently conducting further investigations to identify the individuals responsible for this smuggling operation and to trace the exact origin and intended destination of the contraband. Enhanced surveillance and security measures are being planned for railway junctions to prevent similar incidents in the future.
This raid underscores the GRP’s dedication to maintaining the integrity of goods transport via rail and protecting the local economy from the impacts of smuggling.
