Assam Minister Hazarika Assesses Flood Damage, Promises Swift Relief Measures

Guwahati, 22nd June: Assam’s Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika has undertaken a proactive assessment of flood-affected areas along the Darrang-Kamrup border, responding to the severe inundation caused by excessive water flow from Bhutan. Taking to the microblogging site X, Hazarika highlighted the extensive flooding in the Barnadi river region and pledged immediate relief measures for affected residents.

During his inspection in Haldha, Hazarika examined a damaged ring bund at Kahitali, Darrang, which had collapsed due to floods from the Dimila river, significantly inconveniencing local inhabitants. Hazarika assured swift action, announcing that reconstruction efforts would commence the following day.

Earlier in the day, Hazarika visited flood-hit Kalajal in Kamalpur, where he encountered challenges related to technical aspects of embankment construction. He reassured the local community of his commitment to resolving these issues promptly, mentioning plans to involve engineers from IIT Guwahati and the Water Resource Department in the effort.

The minister’s proactive steps come amidst ongoing efforts to mitigate the impact of floods in Assam, emphasizing immediate relief and long-term solutions to address infrastructure vulnerabilities in flood-prone areas.
