The proposed railway line aims to revolutionize transportation infrastructure in the region, as emphasized by CM Tamang. Beyond improving transport links, the project is expected to enhance defense capabilities, ensure year-round food supply, reduce transportation costs, and catalyze local industrial growth. It is envisioned as a strategic asset contributing significantly to socio-economic development and connectivity in the Himalayan region.
In addition to the railway proposal, CM Tamang briefed Union Minister Vaishnaw on the escalating levels of the Teesta River, which have caused severe damage. He urged immediate intervention to stop debris dumping and implement effective mitigation measures to protect the Melli settlement and ensure resident safety amidst the Sikkim Railways connectivity project.
The meeting underscored the importance of infrastructure development in enhancing regional connectivity and resilience, reflecting Sikkim’s commitment to advancing socio-economic progress while addressing environmental challenges.
