National Desk, 24th June; The 18th Lok Sabha commenced its proceedings on June 24 with Prime Minister Narendra Modi taking the oath as a Member of Parliament, signaling the start of a new parliamentary session. President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath to B. Mahtab as the Pro-Tem Speaker of the Lok Sabha at Rashtrapati Bhawan earlier in the day. Mr. Mahtab, a seven-term BJP member, then convened the Lok Sabha amidst controversy over his appointment, criticized by the Opposition for bypassing Congress member K. Suresh.
