Manipur Government Dismisses Rumors of Additional Central Security Forces Deployment

Northeast Desk, 25th June: The Government of Manipur has issued a press release urgently addressing and dispelling rumors circulating on social media concerning the deployment of additional Central Security Forces to the state.

In an official statement from the Home Department, it was clarified that speculations about military reinforcement in Manipur are unfounded and should be disregarded as misinformation. The statement clarified that the recent movement of security personnel pertains solely to the return of those deployed outside the state for the General Elections to the 18th Lok Sabha.

“It is of grave concern that numerous rumors and speculations are being spread on social media and online messaging platforms,” the statement noted. “The notion of military reinforcement in the State lacks any factual basis and must be disregarded as false.”

The Home Department appealed to civil society organizations, media outlets, and individuals to avoid disseminating unverified information that could provoke public fear or disrupt law enforcement operations. The release cautioned that actions contributing to panic through the spread of fabricated or unverified messages would face serious legal consequences.

“The propagation of panic via fabrication, widespread sharing, and forwarding of unverified messages on social media and other mass media platforms will be dealt with severely, with legal action taken against those responsible under applicable laws,” the press release emphasized.

Assuring the public, the Government reaffirmed its commitment to managing the current situation effectively and restoring peace in Manipur.
