Authorities Seize Gold Biscuits and Foreign Currency in Major Operation at New Bongaigaon Junction
Guwahati, 26th June: In a significant crackdown on smuggling activities, the Government Railway Police (GRP) at New Bongaigaon junction in Bongaigaon district seized 18 gold biscuits and foreign currency during a raid on the Kaziranga Express. The confiscated gold, weighing approximately 360 grams, was found in the possession of four individuals: Rahman, Madhu Kumar, Rajkumar Kaliaperumal, and Pragadiswaran.
The authorities have detained these individuals and launched a thorough investigation to uncover further details and connections related to this case. The raid underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to curb smuggling and illegal activities in the region.
In a related development, a day earlier, an EGPD team from Dispur Police Station arrested two men, Hiramul Islam (24) from Bihpuria and Nazirul Islam (19) from Laluk, after seizing Rs 34,09,000 in Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) and a fake piece of gold from their vehicle. The operation was carried out when the EGPD team intercepted the vehicle, registered as AS12 CC 0399, and conducted a search.
These back-to-back successful operations highlight the vigilance and efficiency of the law enforcement agencies in Assam, aiming to curb illegal activities and ensure public safety.
