Meghalaya CM Conrad K Sangma Denies Family Rift Over NPP Candidate Selection for Gambegre Bypolls
Northeast Desk, 29th June: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has firmly stated that the process of finalizing a candidate for the upcoming Gambegre bypolls has not caused any divisions within his family or the National People’s Party (NPP).
CM Sangma’s declaration follows recent media reports suggesting that his wife, Mehtab Chandee, is a leading contender for the crucial bypolls. Reports also indicate that his brother, James PK Sangma, is in contention for the party ticket, raising speculations about potential family tensions if Chandee were to be chosen over James.
On June 27, the NPP shortlisted four names for the bypolls, with a final decision expected next week. This selection process is part of the party’s preparations for the Gambegre bypolls following their significant loss in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
Media reports highlighted that the NPP considered more than ten potential candidates, including CM Sangma’s wife Mehtab Chandee, sister Agatha Sangma, and brother James PK Sangma. Party leaders are currently evaluating these names to select the most suitable candidate for the upcoming bypolls.
The NPP’s proactive approach in shortlisting candidates demonstrates their commitment to regaining momentum and securing a win in the Gambegre bypolls.
