Assam CM Condoles Loss of Soldiers in Ladakh Flash Flood Incident

Guwahati, 29th June: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his heartfelt condolences following the tragic death of five Indian Army soldiers swept away by flash floods while their tank was crossing a river in the Daulat Beg Oldie area of eastern Ladakh.

In his statement, CM Sarma described the incident as “unfortunate” and extended his sympathies to the bereaved families, emphasizing that the nation will remember the sacrifices made by these brave soldiers. He conveyed his condolences on the social media platform X, writing, “Deeply pained by the loss of 5 of our brave Indian Army soldiers in an unfortunate accident in Ladakh. My deepest condolences to their family members in this hour of grief. The nation will always remember their sacrifices for the motherland.”

The tragic incident occurred when four jawans and one Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) were participating in a drill, crossing a river in the Nyoma-Chushul area in a T-72 tank. According to PTI, the tank sank due to a sudden surge in water levels.

Defence officials confirmed the loss, stating, “Five Indian Army soldiers, including one junior commissioned officer (JCO) and four jawans, lost their lives in a mishap during a river crossing exercise last evening in Daulat Beg Oldie area. All five bodies have been recovered.”

This incident highlights the perilous conditions faced by the armed forces during training exercises and underscores their dedication and sacrifice for the nation’s security.
