Assam CM Sarma Launches Van Mahotsav, Advocates for Tree Planting to Combat Climate Change
Guwahati, 1st July: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated a week-long Van Mahotsav celebration on July 1, encouraging citizens to actively participate in local tree-planting initiatives. In a social media update accompanied by a video showcasing tree planting activities, Sarma underscored the significance of individual efforts in addressing climate change.
“Planting seeds for a Greener Future,” Sarma affirmed, highlighting Assam’s dedication to environmental preservation. He urged residents to plant trees in their communities, emphasizing it as “the best way to combat climate change.”
The Chief Minister outlined Assam’s comprehensive environmental strategy, including initiatives like the Amrit Brikshya Andolan, aimed at substantially increasing the state’s green cover. “We are embarking on a massive green drive across the State, which will yield visible benefits in the days ahead,” Sarma elaborated.
This initiative aligns with mounting national and global concerns regarding deforestation and its adverse impact on climate stability.
