Landslides in Mizoram Cause Widespread Damage; Precautionary Evacuations Underway
Northeast Desk, 2nd July: Mizoram has been hit by a series of landslides following relentless rains over the past 48 hours, causing significant damage across the state. Early this morning, a severe landslide in Aizawl’s Zuangtui locality destroyed three houses.
In response to the imminent threat, the Local Council of Aizawl’s Salem Veng took swift action, evacuating 20 families from their homes to safer locations. The council’s prompt evacuation efforts highlight the urgent need for safety measures as the region grapples with continuous inclement weather.
Reports indicate that several other landslides have occurred, leading to property damage in various parts of Mizoram. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating rescue efforts to ensure the safety of residents amidst the ongoing weather challenges.
