Tripura Government Bans New Registrations of Three-Wheelers in Agartala to Ease Congestion
Northeast Desk, 2nd July: In a decisive move to decongest Agartala, the Tripura government has announced a ban on the registration of new three-wheeler passenger and goods vehicles within the city limits, effective from July 10. The ban aims to promote sustainable urban mobility and improve traffic flow in the state’s capital.
The state Transport Department issued an order detailing that the restriction applies to all new registrations of e-rickshaws, e-carts, e-autos, petrol and diesel autos, CNG autos, and vehicles driven by bio-fuels such as methanol and ethanol.
“This notification aims to manage traffic congestion and ensure public safety and convenience, to promote alternative transportation methods by banning the registration of said passengers and goods vehicles in greater public interest,” the order read.
The ban covers the territorial limits of the Agartala Municipal Corporation area in West Tripura district. Transport Commissioner and District Transport Officer (DTO) of West Tripura have been tasked with ensuring strict compliance with the new regulations.
“The Transport Department, Government of Tripura shall review the effect of this restriction on the urban mobility from time to time and shall have right to review and amend this notification as per need,” the order stated.
The move is part of a broader strategy to enhance urban infrastructure and transportation, ensuring a smoother, safer, and more efficient transit system for Agartala’s residents.
