Chakma Families in Arunachal Seek Justice Amidst Rs 27.51 Crore Airport Scam Investigation

Northeast Desk, 2nd July: The Chakma Displaced Family Justice Demand Committee (CDFJDC) is escalating its efforts to seek justice in the Hollongi airport rehabilitation scam, submitting a memorandum to Governor KT Parnaik to demand swift action. Accusing officials of corruption and misappropriation of Rs 27.51 crores earmarked for resettling 156 Chakma families displaced by the airport project, the committee has expressed frustration over significant delays in crucial investigations.

The memorandum highlights that despite the launch of FIR No 09/2022 by the Special Investigation Cell (SIC) and the discovery of substantial financial malpractice, progress has been hampered by administrative lapses. Specifically, the Papum Pare district’s deputy commissioner has not submitted a crucial technical board report for comparative examination with the project’s detailed project report (DPR). This delay, according to the committee, impedes legal proceedings and raises suspicions of bias favoring the accused parties.

Karuna Sindhu Chakma, president of CDFJDC, emphasized the committee’s determination for justice, citing, “We lodged a complaint against the Chakma Rehabilitation and Resettlement Committee office bearers over a year ago.” He further noted that the latest status report submitted to the Gauhati High Court underscores systematic delays orchestrated by authorities, prolonging the plight of the displaced Chakma community.

The committee’s memorandum to the governor seeks immediate intervention to expedite the investigation, ensure transparency, and uphold accountability in the Hollongi airport rehabilitation scandal, aiming to deliver justice to the affected Chakma families.
