Meghalaya Government and Harijan Panchayat Committee Set to Address Long-standing Dispute Over Them Iew Mawlong
Northeast Desk, 3rd July: Media reports indicate that the Meghalaya government and the Harijan Panchayat Committee (HPC) are gearing up for a crucial meeting by late July or early August to resolve the contentious issue of relocating 342 families from Them Iew Mawlong.
The Meghalaya High Court recently granted a six-week extension, following a plea from legal representatives of both parties, signaling progress in settlement discussions. The court order, issued by Justice W Diengdoh on June 13, highlighted ongoing negotiations aimed at achieving a mutually agreeable solution.
The anticipated meeting aims to reach a positive agreement, potentially resolving the matter outside further court intervention. This development comes as stakeholders intensify efforts to address the long-standing dispute and facilitate the relocation process in the interest of affected families and community harmony.
