Guwahati, 4th July: Assam is grappling with a severe flood crisis that has claimed the lives of 46 people, including eight deaths in the last 24 hours alone. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reports that the situation remains critical, with over 16.25 lakh people affected across 29 districts in the second wave of floods.

The worst-affected district is Dhubri, where 2,23,210 people are suffering, followed by Darrang with 1,83,738 affected, and Lakhimpur with 1,66,063 affected individuals. Major rivers, including the Brahmaputra and its tributaries, are flowing above the danger mark in several areas. This has intensified the plight of residents in districts such as Dhubri, Tezpur, Guwahati, and Goalpara.

With the floodwaters continuing to rise and more areas becoming submerged, the state faces significant challenges in rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts. The authorities are working tirelessly to mitigate the impact and provide necessary assistance to those affected.

The situation remains dire, and the response from various agencies continues to be crucial in addressing the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Assam.
