Guwahati, 5th July: In a heart-wrenching incident on Thursday night, an 8-year-old boy named Avilash Sarkar was swept away by strong currents in a roadside drain in Jyoti Nagar, sparking a frantic search by his father and local authorities.

Eyewitnesses report that Avilash was riding home on a scooter with his father and another companion when the vehicle skidded on the slippery road near the Ganesh temple in Jyoti Nagar. In a desperate attempt to save his son, Avilash’s father jumped into the drain but was unable to reach him in time. The incident immediately mobilized local authorities. The father swiftly informed the Chandmari Police Station, prompting a rapid response from police officers and teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).

A search and rescue operation was launched immediately, involving SDRF teams, Chandmari police, and local residents. They scoured the drains in Milonpur and Jyoti Nagar throughout the night and into Friday morning. Despite their relentless efforts, Avilash remains missing.
