Anil Antony Appointed as BJP Leader In-Charge of Meghalaya and Nagaland
Northeast Desk, 6th July: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed Anil Antony, BJP national secretary, as the new leader in-charge (Prabhari) of Meghalaya and Nagaland. This decision was announced by BJP national president J P Nadda, marking a significant leadership change within the party.
Anil Antony replaces BJP national vice president Chuba Ao, who had been serving as the state-in-charge since November 2020. The appointment comes amidst recent controversy involving Chuba Ao, who faced criticism following the BJP’s failure to prevent the NPP from emerging victorious in the recently-held Lok Sabha elections.
Anil Antony, the son of former Congress leader and former Union Defence Minister AK Antony, joined the BJP in 2023. Representing Kerala’s Pathanamthitta constituency, Anil has been involved in various political controversies, including his protest in favor of PM Modi regarding the BBC documentary on the Gujarat riots.
The BJP hopes that Anil Antony’s leadership will bring a fresh perspective and renewed energy to the party’s efforts in Meghalaya and Nagaland.
