Chief Minister Hails Jal Jeevan Mission Amid Assam Floods, Disparities Evident in Karimganj

Guwahati, 6th July: In the aftermath of devastating floods across Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has commended the Jal Jeevan Mission for its critical role in delivering clean drinking water to affected communities.

Chief Minister Sarma took to the microblogging site X, showcasing images of residents accessing clean water despite the challenges posed by floods. He stated, “While the floods have caused significant damage across the State, the Jal Jeevan Mission has emerged as a beacon of hope during these difficult times.”

Highlighting the mission’s impact, Sarma added, “This transformative water supply initiative continues to provide clean drinking water amidst adversity.”

In stark contrast, residents of Karimganj, reliant on murky river water for daily needs, continue to await access to pure drinking water taps.

Despite the government’s ambitious “Har Ghar Jal” initiative aimed at ensuring clean water for every household, the reality in Karimganj paints a different picture.

Official reports indicate that 80% of the Jal Jeevan Mission’s objectives have been achieved. However, the ground situation, especially in Ward No. 9 of Nivia, a remote area in the Ramakrishnanagar constituency, remains challenging.

This news story encapsulates Chief Minister Sarma’s praise for the Jal Jeevan Mission amidst flood recovery efforts and highlights the ongoing disparities in water access in Karimganj.
