Sikkim Chief Minister Attends 89th Birthday Celebration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama

Northeast Desk, 6th July: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang participated in the grand celebration of the 89th birthday of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama at the Dalai Lama Temple in McLeodganj on July 6. Expressing deep gratitude for being part of this significant event, Chief Minister Tamang was warmly welcomed by Sikyong (CTA) Penpa Tsering, Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile Khenpo Sonam Tenphel, and the entire team of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA).

The event also saw the presence of Speaker M.N. Sherpa, Ministers Bhim Hang Subba, Puran Gurung, and Pintso Namgyal Lepcha, along with MLAs Sanjit Kharel and Erung Lepcha. Former Chairman of ARC Tenzing Gelek, Principal RC A.K. Chand, CMO Secretary Dr. S.D. Dhakal, representatives of the local Tibetan Assembly in Gangtok, executive members of Tibetan associations, and students from Sikkim were also in attendance.

Chief Minister Tamang’s participation underscored the profound impact of His Holiness’s teachings on compassion, peace, and harmony. Prior to the event, CM Tamang extended his wishes to the Dalai Lama on social media platform X, stating, “On behalf of the people of Sikkim and myself, it is my great honor to extend our heartiest greetings and best wishes to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama on His 89th birth anniversary, now celebrated as the Universal Day of Compassion.”

He further added, “His Holiness’ dedication to promoting peace, compassion, and harmony inspires us all. We are deeply grateful for the wisdom and guidance. May His Holiness’ vision of a compassionate world flourish, and may His tireless efforts in spreading love and compassion continue to touch lives.”
