Assam: Crackdown on NGO Turned Drug Hub in Bokajan; Authorities Seize Premises and Apprehend Director

Guwahati, 7th July: Authorities in Bokajan sub-division have taken decisive action against an NGO accused of transforming into a center for illegal drug activities. Acting on local complaints, the Bokajan sub-divisional administration, in collaboration with Khatkhati police, conducted a raid on the office of Project Nabarun located at Lahrijan on the Assam-Nagaland border.

During the raid conducted on Saturday, officials discovered more than 20 individuals engaged in drug consumption on the premises. Consequently, Ramzan Ali, the director of Project Nabarun, which had previously received approval from the National AIDS Control Agency (NACO), was apprehended by police.

Officials familiar with the operation stated, “The administration took swift action following reports of rampant drug use and distribution within the NGO’s premises.” The raid resulted in the immediate sealing of the NGO’s office by authorities.

Ramzan Ali now faces charges related to drug supply and facilitating drug consumption, according to police sources.

The crackdown highlights the administration’s commitment to combating illicit activities and ensuring public safety in the region.
