Sikkim Governor Graces Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra at Thakurbari Temple in Gangtok

Northeast Desk, 7th July: Governor of Sikkim, Lakshman Prasad Acharya, along with First Lady Kumud Devi, participated in the vibrant Rath Yatra festivities at Thakurbari Temple, Gangtok, celebrating the cherished annual event with the local community.

Body: The Rath Yatra, a deeply revered festival among Sikkim’s devotees, commenced with great fervor and enthusiasm at Thakurbari Temple. Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, accompanied by First Lady Kumud Devi, took part in the rituals and prayers, wishing for the prosperity and health of Sikkim’s residents. The Governor received a warm welcome from devotees and immersed himself in the spiritual ambiance, embracing traditional greetings.

A key highlight of the celebration was the grand procession of Lord Jagannath’s chariot along MG Marg, accompanied by chants of “Jai Jagannath” from numerous devotees. Governor Acharya emphasized the Rath Yatra’s significance in preserving India’s cultural heritage and fostering national unity.

Observed from the second day of the waxing phase of Ashadh month until the 11th day of the bright fortnight, the Rath Yatra holds profound religious and mythological importance, reflecting India’s rich cultural tapestry and societal values.

Joining the Governor were MLA Shri Delay Namgyal Barfungpa, Gangtok Municipal Corporation Councilor Shri Sandeep Golwa, members of the organizing committee, and numerous devotees who contributed to the event’s success.

In his address, Governor Acharya extended heartfelt wishes to the people of Sikkim, reaffirming the enduring vitality of Indian traditions and the cultural dynamism displayed during the Rath Yatra celebrations.
