ENPO Temporarily Suspends Public Emergency in six districts of Eastern Nagaland

Northeast Desk, 8th July: The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO) Central Executive Council (CEC) has announced the temporary suspension of the public emergency in Eastern Nagaland. This decision, reached during a pivotal meeting on July 3, 2024, at the ENPO headquarters in Tuensang, marks a significant step towards fostering understanding and pursuing peaceful resolutions.

The public emergency, initially declared on February 5, 2024, has been lifted in response to ongoing discussions concerning the proposed creation of Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT) by the Government of India. This suspension is contingent upon periodic reviews and will be subject to reinstatement if compelling circumstances necessitate it.

Additionally, the ENPO addressed the issue of Urban Local Bodies (ULB) nominees, clarifying that Eastern Nagaland did not participate in the recent ULB elections. Consequently, there are no nominees from this region for ULB positions. The Chenmoho resolution and its implications for the ULB nomination process were also deliberated during the meeting.

The ENPO’s recent decisions and clarifications are aimed at providing clarity and facilitating constructive negotiations and administrative procedures within the region.
