Assam: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi visits flood relief camp in Fulertal, Expresses Solidarity
Guwahati, 8th July: Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, visited Assam’s Silchar today as part of his itinerary to assess the flood-affected regions in the Northeast. His initial stop was at the Thalai In Youth Care Center in Fulertal, where he inspected a relief camp established for those displaced by the recent floods.
Gandhi’s visit comes in the wake of severe flooding, landslides, and river overflows across 28 districts due to heavy rains, affecting approximately 22.70 lakh people and triggering urgent relief operations.
A spokesperson for the Assam state Congress emphasized that Gandhi’s visit aims to engage directly with those impacted and evaluate the situation firsthand. This visit is particularly significant as it marks Gandhi’s first official trip to the Northeast since becoming the Leader of the Opposition.
During his stay, Gandhi will meet with local officials and interact with flood victims to understand their immediate needs and the challenges they face.
