Nagaland: Kohima Municipal Council and Chiephobozou Town Council Elect New Leaders
Northeast Desk, 9th July: Newly elected members of the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) and Chiephobozou Town Council (CTC) have appointed their respective leaders following a joint meeting at the NDPP headquarters in Kohima. The meeting, facilitated by the High Powered Committee (HPC) of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), was attended by 22 councillors—13 from KMC and 9 from CTC.
Salhoutuonuo Kruse, legislator-in-charge of women resources and horticulture, and Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, advisor of school education and SCERT, led the HPC in outlining the responsibilities and regulations governing Urban Local Body (ULB) functions. Contributions to the discussions were made by Theyiekielie Tachü, CEB vice president, and Prasielie Pienyü, NDPP Kohima region president.
Following the deliberations, the councillors elected their leaders through a democratic process.
For the KMC, Neikhozo Suokhrie was elected as chairperson, with his nomination proposed by Avilie Rio and seconded by Thejavizo Philip Solo. Khrielevi Chüsi was chosen as deputy chairperson, nominated by Kazheli Tungoe and seconded by Ketousie Khamo.
In the CTC, Khrielelie Kerhü-o was unanimously elected as chairperson, with Lhoubeituo Kezie-o proposing his nomination and Khrielievinuo Angami seconding it. Kekhrieneinuo Zumvü was unanimously elected as deputy chairman, nominated by Keviseilie Rüpreo and seconded by Kiyasetuo Kengurüse.
The meeting and subsequent elections signify a step forward in the governance of these Urban Local Bodies, ensuring representation and leadership in line with the party’s objectives and community needs.
