Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Updates on Flood Situation
Guwahati, 9th July: In a significant update regarding Assam’s flood situation, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared positive news via a post on microblogging site X. According to his statement, the water levels of the Brahmaputra River and its tributaries have receded below the danger mark across most areas. In locations where water levels remain elevated, a decreasing trend has been observed, indicating improving conditions.
Earlier, on July 7, CM Sarma undertook a comprehensive assessment of the flood-affected areas during his visit to Palashbari in Kamrup district. Witnessing firsthand the impact of the floods, he visited three relief camps and interacted with affected residents to oversee the ongoing rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts.
At the Amrit Chandra Thakuria Commerce College relief camp, CM Sarma inspected the distribution of essential supplies, including vital provisions such as safe drinking water, baby food, and medicines, to 28 flood-affected individuals.
Moving to No. 1 Satrapara LP School in Nahira, within the Rampur Educational Block, Sarma engaged with 29 temporary residents, directing Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli to ensure comprehensive support, especially for vulnerable groups like infants and the elderly.
Concluding his visit at Nahira Guimara High School relief camp, accommodating 236 flood victims, the Chief Minister reassured residents of government commitment to rehabilitate those whose homes were damaged or destroyed. He instructed the Deputy Commissioner to compile a list of affected individuals for swift rehabilitation measures.
CM Sarma’s proactive approach and on-site assessments underscore Assam’s resolve to mitigate flood-related challenges and provide necessary aid to affected communities.
