Meghalaya’s ‘Rapture’ Nominated for Best Film – Critics Choice at IFFM 2024
Northeast Desk, 12th July: Dominic Sangma’s Garo-language film ‘Rapture’ has earned a prestigious nomination at the 15th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2024. Competing in the Best Film – Critics Choice category, alongside prominent Hindi and regional cinema releases, the Meghalaya-based production has captured attention for its cultural depth and cinematic excellence.
Originally titled ‘Rimdogittanga’, ‘Rapture’ delves into the cultural and spiritual facets of the Garo community, presenting a compelling narrative with captivating visuals. Its nomination at IFFM signifies a significant achievement for Meghalaya’s burgeoning film industry, positioning it alongside established Bollywood and regional cinema giants.
The 127-minute feature, an international co-production involving India, China, Switzerland, and Qatar, has already made waves on the global festival circuit. It received the prestigious Groupement National des Cinémas de Recherche (GNCR) label in France and has been showcased at renowned events including Film Bazaar, Tokyo Talents, and Berlinale Talents.
Facing tough competition in its category, which includes acclaimed works like “Dear Jassi” (Punjabi), “Laapataa Ladies” (Hindi), and “Kaathal – The Core” (Malayalam), ‘Rapture’ stands out for its unique storytelling and cultural authenticity.
The IFFM 2024 awards ceremony is scheduled for August 16 at the Palais Theatre in Melbourne, coinciding with the festival’s dates from August 15 to 25. The event promises to celebrate the diversity and richness of Indian cinema, honoring outstanding contributions across various genres and languages.
